Bands and Projects

Stylistically borderless Jan Luley tells stories on the piano. With interesting and entertaining moderations he links his tunes with moods, stories and historical information about songs, pianists and music styles. His music always gives the listener the feeling that they are actually in New Orleans in the world famous French Quarter experiencing the taste and culture of the many styles of piano played there. Whether it is swing, blues, boogie-woogie Creole and more, during Jan Luley's performances you can hear all these classic styles being played with a fresh and vibrant energy.

Jan Luley Solo / Trio

Jan Luley at the piano

Within his concert program “Blues, Boogie & New Orleans Style Piano”, which he performs solo or with his trio, he combines the great old piano styles of traditional jazz and Boogie Woogie with contemporary rhythms from New Orleans and his own compositions.  A great mixture of thrilling piano skills and vigorous rhythms sung and played by one of Germany leading piano players in this genre.

Since January 2010 he is mainly touring solo or with his trio performing his new program “PIANO TALES”. This is a mixture of swinging and groovy standards with some of Luley's originals, combined with stunning background stories and anekdotes about the songs, composers and musicians. What about that one famous house in New Orleans? Why Wild Cat Kelly doesn‘t want to go to jail? How to kick out an audience in Creole language? All this and much more you can find out in Jan Luley‘s live performance of his PIANO TALES.

Angela Brown (Chicago/USA) & Jan Luley

BAM, Black American Music, that’s what Angela calls her music if one asks her for her preferential stylistics. Black American Music, this is Blues, inspired by Gospel, Soul and Jazz.
Almost all of the songs Angela Brown sings describe stories written by life. She tells stories about "Love, Life and Babies", about work and pleasure, about the Blues that everybody understands. Her stage presence searches its equals; her audience is mastered by her from the first moment.

Angela Brown Banner

Angela Brown, famed in Chicago as "the hottest lady in town", already sang secretly at the age of nine years at night in the clubs of Chicago. She is space-reaching not only by charm, joke and personality. Her voice is immense, she herself irresistibly.
Angela Brown has got the aura of the legendary Blues singers of the twenties and she follows the succession of singers like Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey.

Angela Brown is accompanied by Jan Luley at the piano or by his trio. They both work together since 1993. For special concerts Angela likes to add a hot saxophone to the band.
